At Fido, we are building the future of finance in Africa. We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our team as Head of Legal. In this role, you will provide strategic legal leadership across the business, support compliance with financial regulations and assist in managing relationships with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and other regulatory bodies. Support engagement with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and other regulators by providing legal input for licensing processes, regulatory submissions, and audit. Minimum 7 years of legal experience in financial services, including in-house roles and/or law firm experience advising financial services institutions. Ability to identify and prioritize key deliverables, to manage a large volume of projects, and to meet demanding deadlines.

Requirements

  • Law degree (LL.B./J.D.) from a recognised law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Ghana, and in good standing.
  • Experience in negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial and technology related licensing agreements.
  • Strong business acumen and the capacity to integrate legal and business strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills and ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to advise all management levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on all matters affecting the organization's operations, strategy, and risk exposure.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, agreements, and legal documents to protect Fido's interests.
  • Oversee the full contract lifecycle, including approvals, renewals, amendments, and terminations.
  • Manage and coordinate external legal counsel as required, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality of advice.
  • Serve as Company Secretary and lead all board secretarial functions.
  • Coordinate board Committee and AGM meetings, including preparation of agendas, papers, and minutes.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance standards, regulatory requirements, and internal governance frameworks.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations, evaluate their business impact, and provide guidance to management.
