Mine is a modern, mechanized underground mining operation designed to produce up to 5,000 t/day of ore.
This position is responsible for all safety processes and procedures on
Surface, including third parties operating on site surface operations.
Reporting to the
Site
Safety
Superintendent – Surface, the surface safety officer enforces company safety policy and work procedures, working with site superintendents to complete accident investigations and ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and third parties.

Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences or similar qualification from a recognised institution
- ISO 45001 internal or lead auditor certification
- Certification in Process Safety Engineering or Management
- Certification in incident investigation methodologies such as IIP, Taproot, etc.
- Health and Safety Certificate of Competency from Minerals Commission of Ghana (advantage)
- Valid Ghanaian driving license (strong advantage)
- 4 to 8 years working experience in the mining industry
- Experience in Health and Safety principles in Mine Processing Plants, Surface infrastructure, surface engineering, and maintenance workshops
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in Construction Safety, Greenfield and Brownfield projects, and project management
Responsibilities
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices or conditions before accidents occur through regular inspection and fostering a safety attitude among the workforce
- Assist in conducting planned inspections and audits using checklists, evaluating compliance with standards and checking the state of safety of all equipment
- Ensure all statutory requirements bearing on occupational health and safety are adhered to on Surface
- Participate in all inspections and inquiries by Mine Inspectors
- Facilitate formal risk assessments for operational activities and ensure significant risks are captured with corrective actions planned and implemented
- Conduct and assist in investigating all incidents, recommending and enforcing remedial measures to prevent recurrence
- Conduct periodic planned job observations and planned inspections on various employee categories to enhance safe work practices
- Conduct periodic on-the-job safety training for workers to heighten safety awareness
- Ensure PPE supplied to workmen meets company standards and enforce their use
- Attend, participate and facilitate safety meetings including Safety Committee Meetings and Toolbox Meetings
- Enforce all health and safety protocols as required by AGAG and statutory bodies
