Job Description
UN Volunteer Specialist assignment hosted by UNODC Uganda (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime), supporting communications, visibility, and programme support for UNODC's Programme in Uganda focused on crime prevention, criminal justice, and environmental protection initiatives.
UNODC is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime, established in 1997. UNODC operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices and is mandated to assist Member States in their struggle against illicit drugs, crime and terrorism.
Assignment details: 6-month national UN Volunteer Specialist assignment, with possibility of extension. Expected start date 20 May 2026. Onsite at UN premises in Kampala. Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media, Public Relations or Social Sciences
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in communications, media relations or public information
- Fluent English (written and spoken) — required
- Drafting, editing and content development skills
- Experience with event organization and stakeholder engagement
- Multimedia production and digital platforms management
- Strong computer skills including MS Office and social media tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in multicultural environments
- Core competencies: professionalism, teamwork, planning and organizing
- Age 18 to 80
- Candidate must be a national, legal resident, or hold refugee status in Uganda (national UN Volunteer assignment)
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update internal databases, websites and social media platforms
- Draft, edit and design communication content aligned with UN standards
- Research and compile information for communication outputs
- Coordinate media coverage and public information activities
- Support multimedia production (photo, video, audio, online content)
- Contribute to planning and organization of visibility events and outreach activities
- Liaise with media, partners and stakeholders
- Support administrative and logistical processes including procurement and budget tracking
- Contribute to communication strategies, newsletters and publications
- Support data collection, analysis, reporting and knowledge management
- Ensure branding and visibility compliance
- Perform other related duties as required
