We currently have an exciting career opportunity for the role of Chief Finance Officer at Jubilee Life Insurance, Uganda. The position holder will report to the Chief Executive Officer. Role Purpose: The role holder will lead, manage and set standards for the finance and accounting team within Jubilee Life Insurance Limited for purposes of establishing, controlling, and monitoring annual, quarterly, and monthly reporting for the entity to ensure delivery of timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders. The job holder is also responsible for: Supporting the CEO in the development of strategy with supporting budgets and business plans Overseeing the tax planning, reporting and tax compliance of the Company in accordance with local tax laws, regulations and best practice, taking due assistance of external tax advisors Providing financial knowledge to determine company policy and explain complex financial matters to other company executives, board directors, government officials and shareholders Experience in high profile business environments and/or regulated sectors with the qualities of a business leader rather than a purely technical specialist Experience in finance planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial reporting within the insurance industry Experience in leading high-performing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, and providing guidance and mentoring on the finance profession Deep knowledge of life insurance products, actuarial principles, underwriting procedures, risk management, and regulatory compliance applicable to the insurance business

Requirements

  • Academic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Statistics or related studies
  • CPA/ACCA or equivalent professional qualification
  • Relevant Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance
  • Relevant business industries include Insurance, Banking, Telecom or any Financial Services company
  • Key Competencies:
  • Functional leadership skills to collaborate as a partner, lead teams and deliver on tasks and submissions
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Strong financial management and analytical skills
  • Highly innovative, performance driven with a strong desire to achieve excellence

Responsibilities

  • Strategy:
  • Controlling and Reporting:
  • Develop and deliver the annual audited financial statements and annual report of JLIL
  • Manage the financial risk profile of the business, ensuring appropriate controls are in place
  • Ensure tax planning, reporting and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations
  • Compliance:
  • Coordinate with the internal audit function to ensure compliance with financial and regulatory standards
  • Liaise with external regulators such as the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda
  • Leadership and People:
  • Provide transformational leadership to motivate and sustain the performance of all stakeholders
  • Foster leadership culture and build team to deliver business objectives
  • Develop leadership tools, periodically reviewed to enhance skills and reflect the strategic initiatives of the business
  • Provide leadership in the development of JLIL's continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives with supporting financial analysis and evaluation
  • Ensure JLIL's financial benchmarks and targets are in line with the Jubilee Group standards and communicated and implemented across all JLIL's business lines and branches
  • Provide leadership and coordination of the JLIL's Budget process and ensuring the budgets are financially reasonable and reflect the strategic initiatives of the Group
  • Oversee the management accounts and business performance reports in a complete, accurate, and timely manner including financial analysis, monitoring of KPIs
