Job Description

M-KOPA is looking for a Customer Insights Data Analyst to join their Customer Insights Team in Kenya. The role is split 70% data analysis and 30% UX research support. You will own quantitative work — Python or R pipelines, Looker dashboards, segmentation, cohort analysis, survey design and administration — while also supporting the qualitative side: hypothesis development, thematic coding, and mixed-methods studies. The CI team's outputs directly shape product strategy across five African markets. You are not producing reports — you are producing the intelligence that determines what gets built, who for, and when. This is a hybrid role reporting to the Senior Data Analyst.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in a data analyst or mixed-methods research role
  • Track record of producing outputs that non-technical stakeholders actually use and act on
  • Hands-on Looker capability — building dashboards from scratch, not just maintaining existing ones
  • Working Python or R skills for data analysis and pipelines
  • Familiarity with field survey tools in low-connectivity environments
  • Some UX research exposure — understanding how qualitative data gets coded and what a usability study involves
  • Ability to translate complex data into executive-level clarity
  • Comfort handling PII and working within data governance frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain dashboards in Looker that track customer behaviour across five African markets
  • Run segmentation, cohort, and A/B analyses using Python or R
  • Design and administer field surveys using tools suited to low-connectivity environments
  • Support qualitative research through hypothesis development and thematic coding
  • Translate findings into exec-level outputs including charts, dashboards, and summary slides
  • Occasionally travel to M-KOPA markets for in-field data collection
  • Handle PII in line with M-KOPA policy and applicable national law
  • Ensure quantitative and qualitative work complement each other across mixed-methods studies
  • Report to the Senior Data Analyst and contribute to team intelligence outputs

Benefits

  • Work upstream of product decisions that shape strategy across five markets
  • Hybrid work arrangement in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Work at one of Africa's fastest growing companies (Financial Times 2022–2025)
  • TIME100 Most Influential Companies in the World 2023 and 2024
  • High-trust team with real responsibilities and genuine impact on millions of customers
