Requirements
- Master's degree in law, social science, anthropology, sociology, development, environment, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, with 5 years in a managerial role
- Experience in development, environmental and social development, conflict resolution and consensus-building in developing countries
- Familiarity with the objectives and functions of multilateral development banks and financing institutions
- Experience in applying social and environmental policies in development projects including resettlement and conservation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English or French; knowledge of the other language is an advantage
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage effectively with government officials, civil society, and development partners
- Commitment to innovative and creative approaches to enhance performance
- Proven ability to lead teams and develop strong working relationships
Responsibilities
- Lead and be responsible for general administration of the IRM Unit, including staff, budgets, and external relations
- Provide advice and technical opinions to the President and/or the Board under the advisory services of IRM
- Arrange for the selection of Experts for the Roster in accordance with the Bank Group's procurement rules
- Establish administrative procedures and guidelines necessary for the proper functioning of the IRM
- Oversee the establishment and maintenance of the Register of Requests open to the public
- Receive and assess whether requests (complaints) fall within the mandate of the IRM
- Conduct problem-solving exercises and facilitate compliance reviews
- Work with AfDB senior management to promptly respond to requests and implement recommendations
- Identify areas from the IRM's work that could inform operational policy improvements
- Report on the IRM activities to the Board of Directors and the President
