Requirements

  • Must have a Masters of Medicine in Microbiology from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Must have Bachelor of Medicine & a Bachelor of Surgery or Bachelor of Dental Surgery from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  • Must have University teaching experience at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer for at least two (2) years or Tutorial Assistant for at least three (3) years.
  • Must have at least one scholarly article or publication or should have undertaken at least one research project/paper.
  • Must be registered or eligible for full registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners' Council.
  • Should demonstrate commitment to Medical research.
  • Must be a person of high integrity.
  • Must be a committed and practicing Christian.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in course administration and instruction for the Medical school curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver an integrated curriculum, which blends science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members in other disciplines.
  • Employ multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large and small group discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, team-based learning and distance education.
  • Provide formative and summative assessment of undergraduate and post-graduate Medical student performance.
  • Provide individual support, feedback, and advice to Medical students.
  • Work closely with the course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty, and key administrators to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Medical school’s curriculum.
  • Engage in scholarship and academically-related public service.
  • Supervising student Microbiology sessions, treatment plans, and competences; acting as a clinical academic advisor and/or undergraduate Microbiology portfolio supervisor, as requested by the Head of Department.
  • Actively engage in research in microbiology or a related filed, within developing UCUSoM research themes.
  • Provide support to research internally and externally by attending and presenting at relevant meetings.
  • Engage in publication of original material (reviews, case studies, research results).
  • Provide continuing professional development in the area of Microbiology.
