Job Description

MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in the Business Intelligence division based in Uganda. Reporting to the Head Business Intelligence and Analytics, this role develops and maintains reusable data pipelines used for insights and advanced data analytics solutions that serve the business needs of the organization. The Senior Data Engineer facilitates getting data from a variety of different sources in the right formats, maintaining data quality standards, and assuring that downstream users can access data quickly.

Requirements

  • First degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
  • 3 or more years of work experience in Software Development and Data Science related projects.
  • Knowledge in cloud computing technologies.
  • Experience working across diverse cultures and geographies is advantageous.
  • Detailed working experience of data governance and standards.
  • Training in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Engineering, and Machine Learning.
  • Knowledge of Big Data technologies and Data Warehousing.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • System design, integration, and software development capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Drive business engagement with leaders to support and implement high-quality data-driven decisions.
  • Build automated reports and advanced analytics solutions based on multiple data sources.
  • Implement advanced ETL and analytics use-case development including end-to-end machine learning models.
  • Develop, test and maintain data pipelines that are scalable, repeatable, and secure.
  • Create a Model Factory for Data Science Models and Algorithms to ensure governance.
  • Identify useful data and extend advanced analytics use-cases to entire company through BI teams.
  • Prepare long-term evolution plans for data analytics projects developed in-house.
  • Innovate and advance on existing data infrastructure as business use cases continue to emerge.
  • Design and implement modern Data APIs for internal and external data access.
  • Develop data-marts used for building Credit Scoring models for Micro-lending.
  • Coach, develop and motivate staff through mentorship and employee engagement projects.
