Senior Machine Learning Scientist - LLM & Voice

Wave is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join their Support Automation product team. As the largest financial institution in Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire with millions of users, Wave believes the future of customer support lies in machines handling repetitive tasks so humans can focus on high-value interactions. This fully remote role is open to candidates in Ghana, Kenya, US, Canada, UK, or Spain, or Wave's operating markets in Africa. Salary up to $227,900 depending on level and location, plus generous equity. Wave raised the largest Series A in Africa in 2021, backed by Founders Fund, Sequoia Heritage, Stripe, Ribbit Capital, and Y Combinator. Architect, evaluate, and optimize autonomous voice and digital agents powering 10M+ customer interactions per month across West Africa. Own problems end-to-end from problem discovery to running in production, working alongside product and engineering leaders. Proven hands-on experience building with LLMs including prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, fine-tuning, and agent orchestration. Bonus: research background in speech or LLMs, Voice AI experience (ASR, TTS, latency optimization, real-time streaming), experience building customer support or conversational AI systems, familiarity with low-resource language challenges.
