Job Description

JUMO is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable data architectures on their intelligent banking platform. JUMO's Data engineering team ensures their platform can acquire data from millions of users across globally distributed sources. You will work with large, complex data sets using Spark, Kafka, Python, SQL, Airflow and AWS technologies. This is a remote-first position based in South Africa or Portugal. Design, implement, and maintain the data pipelines that constitute JUMO's data platform, enabling effective use of data across the organisation. Solid experience with big-data technologies such as Apache Spark, Flink, Hadoop, Kafka or Kinesis, Cassandra, DynamoDB, MongoDB. Bonus: Experience with messaging systems (RabbitMQ, SNS), pipeline orchestration (Airflow, NiFi, Streamsets), or BI tools (Tableau, Superset, Looker).

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in a similar role with a BSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Real-world experience of data pipeline design and development as well as data processing and storage.
  • Experience in streaming technologies, specifically Spark and Kafka.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, AWS preferred.
  • Experience with productionising and monitoring of data pipeline workflows.
  • Experience in Python (preferred), Scala, or Java.
  • RDBMS experience including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift and SQL Server.
  • Understanding of CI/CD practices.
  • Productive in a Linux command line environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create robust, mission critical batch and streaming data processing capabilities.
  • Provide feedback on team members' output and encourage skills development within the team.
  • Work closely with Portfolio Managers and Decision Scientists to understand real world problems to solve.
  • Mentor juniors with technical leadership.
  • Monitor data pipeline performance, perform root cause analysis and provide solutions to any issues.
