Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a product engineer.
• Fluent in English; bilingual in French is a big bonus.
• Candidates must be based in Kenya.
• Care deeply about users and the impact of technical decisions on them.
• Highly autonomous and resilient, comfortable navigating ambiguity and working through difficult problems.
• Strong written communication skills essential for a remote-first company.
• Systems thinking: ability to solve underlying problems rather than just shipping code.
• Continuous learner who enjoys understanding complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve payment systems and features used by millions of customers across Africa.
• Own projects end-to-end: understand the problem, ship the solution, and help customer support resolve issues.
• Enable people to use Wave to pay for products in stores.
• Integrate with utility companies to enable bill payments via Wave.
• Build tools for business owners to pay employee salaries using Wave.
• Enable transportation payments on taxis, trains and buses.
• Write clean, maintainable code using Python, GraphQL, Kotlin, Swift, and TypeScript/React.
• Contribute to technical decisions and architecture for scalable systems.
